Exam Prep App Development for iPhone and iPad

Already have exam questions, practice tests or mock exams? Nurova turns existing exam-preparation content into a branded iOS app without asking you to fund a completely new testing platform from zero.

The service is designed for established exam-prep businesses, publishers, educators and training providers that already own valuable content and want a professional mobile product under their own brand. You keep the subject expertise, audience and educational material; Nurova supplies the reusable app technology and technical delivery.

Standard white-label projects start from £4,500. Custom development is quoted separately.

How it works

A faster route from an existing question bank to the App Store

Building a serious exam-preparation product from scratch means paying for many things that are not unique to your exam: question delivery, test sessions, scoring, explanations, progress, premium access and mobile interface patterns. Nurova starts with those foundations already in place, then focuses the project on what should actually be different for your organisation.

Use the content you already own

Your existing questions, mock exams, correct answers and explanations are the starting point. We review how the material is structured, agree an import format and configure it inside the app rather than asking you to rebuild the same educational asset again.

Launch under your own brand

The app can use your own name, logo, colours, educational identity and App Store presence. The aim is a dedicated product that feels like part of your business, not a generic marketplace where your content sits beside competitors.

Reuse proven exam functionality

The Nurova platform already contains the core patterns used by exam-prep products, including practice, scoring, results, explanations, progress and premium-content flows. We confirm which features fit your project during scoping.

Pay for custom work only when it adds value

You are not locked into an inflexible template. If your exam needs a useful specialist feature, new question type or code change, we can estimate it separately. That keeps the standard build efficient while leaving room for commercially worthwhile customisation.

Why reuse an existing exam-prep engine instead of commissioning everything from scratch?

Most of the engineering inside an exam-preparation app is not unique to a particular subject. A tax exam, teaching certification, nursing exam or licensing test may use very different educational content, but the product still needs reliable ways to present questions, record answers, calculate results, show explanations, organise practice and manage premium access. Rebuilding all of those foundations for every new client creates cost without necessarily creating additional educational value.

Nurova takes a different approach. The reusable platform provides the common technical foundation, while the client-specific work concentrates on your brand, your content, your exam structure and the commercial settings that matter to your business. This is why a standard white-label project can start from £4,500 rather than the cost profile of a fully bespoke app commissioned from zero.

What the content-import process looks like

Before development begins, we look at the way your questions and answers are currently stored. A clean spreadsheet, CSV file or database export is generally the easiest starting point because fields such as question text, answer options, correct answer, explanation, topic and test grouping can be mapped consistently. If you currently have material in Word documents, PDFs or a learning platform, we can still review it, but additional preparation may be needed before it is ready for import.

This separation is deliberate. The standard project price covers an agreed content-import structure, while heavy data cleaning, rewriting, manual extraction or repeated post-launch imports can be priced separately. That keeps the main project predictable for clients whose content is already organised and prevents content administration from quietly turning into an unlimited service.

A white-label base does not mean every app has to be identical

The efficient starting point is the existing Nurova interface and feature set, but we are open to smaller code changes where they make sense. One certification provider may need a slightly different test flow; another may need specialist scoring logic or an additional content category. Those requests can be assessed technically and quoted before work starts.

The distinction is simple: branding and standard configuration belong to the core white-label package, while client-specific engineering is paid custom development. This lets a client begin with a proven product rather than a blank sheet of paper, but it also leaves room to invest more when a particular feature has real commercial value.

Building a product you can continue to monetise

An exam-prep app can be more than another delivery format for existing material. It can become a recurring commercial product with free sample content, premium access, subscriptions or in-app purchases where the chosen model and Apple requirements allow it. The right structure depends on the audience, the exam cycle and the way you already sell your educational content.

Nurova does not require you to abandon your existing website, course or question-bank business. The app can sit alongside those channels as a dedicated mobile product under your own brand. For established providers, that means repackaging an asset they already own into another customer experience rather than starting a completely unrelated business from scratch.

Best fit

When a dedicated exam-prep app makes commercial sense

  • You already sell or distribute exam-preparation content and want a stronger mobile product rather than relying only on PDFs, a website or a course platform.
  • You have a substantial question bank or mock-exam library that can be reused inside a structured app experience.
  • You want your own iPhone and iPad presence, your own brand and your own App Store listing instead of placing learners inside somebody else's generic quiz platform.
  • You want to launch more efficiently than a completely bespoke software project, while keeping the option to pay for targeted custom development when it genuinely improves the product.

Need a feature that is not part of the standard Nurova platform? Small and specialist code changes can be scoped and priced separately before development starts.

Questions

Exam prep app development FAQs

Can you build an exam prep app from my existing question bank?

Yes. That is the main use case for Nurova. If you already have structured questions, answer choices, correct answers, explanations or mock exams, we can review the material and map it into the existing Nurova exam-prep framework. The goal is to reuse valuable content you already own rather than asking you to recreate it for a new platform.

Do you build every exam app from scratch?

No. The standard service uses the existing Nurova exam-prep framework, which already includes the core product patterns needed for question practice, scoring, results, explanations, progress and premium access. Reusing the platform reduces duplicated engineering and makes the project more predictable. If your product needs something genuinely different, custom development can be scoped and priced separately.

What types of exam-preparation businesses are a good fit?

Nurova is a strong fit for established exam-prep businesses, certification providers, training organisations, publishers and education companies that already own structured assessment content. The model works particularly well when the business has a useful question bank or mock-exam library but does not yet have a dedicated iPhone and iPad product under its own brand.

What content do we need to provide?

Ideally you provide the question text, answer options where relevant, correct answers, explanations, categories or topics and any mock-test structure you want preserved. A spreadsheet, CSV export, database export or another agreed structured format is usually easier to work with than a collection of unstructured PDFs. If your content needs substantial cleaning or restructuring, that work can be quoted separately.

Can the app include timed mock exams and practice modes?

Yes, where those behaviours fit the existing Nurova platform. A project can use practice sessions, mock tests, scoring, answer review, explanations and progress features already supported by the framework. During scoping we confirm exactly which existing features apply to your exam and identify any special logic that would require additional development.

Can the app include paid access, subscriptions or in-app purchases?

Yes. Existing Nurova functionality can support free and premium content, subscriptions and in-app purchases where appropriate. The exact commercial structure is agreed during scoping and implemented subject to Apple requirements. If you already have a preferred model, such as free sample tests followed by premium access, we can review whether it maps cleanly to the standard platform.

Can you customise the design?

Branding is part of the normal white-label process, so the app can use your app name, logo, colours and educational identity. The standard service is intentionally based on the existing Nurova interface rather than a completely new bespoke design. Smaller visual or code changes are possible where useful, while larger redesigns are treated as separately priced custom work.

Can you add a new question type or specialist feature?

Potentially, yes. We are open to sensible customisation rather than forcing every client into exactly the same feature set. If a requested feature changes the Nurova core, introduces new scoring logic or requires a new workflow, we estimate that work separately before development starts so both scope and cost remain clear.

Who owns the educational content and brand?

You retain ownership of your brand, question bank, explanations and other educational content. Nurova retains the reusable underlying platform, source code and generic exam-preparation technology. The commercial relationship gives your branded app the agreed right to use that technology without transferring the Nurova core itself.

Will the app be published under our Apple Developer account?

Yes. The app is intended to be submitted through your Apple Developer account so your organisation controls the App Store listing, commercial agreements and account relationship. Nurova handles the technical build and submission work included in the agreed project scope.

How much does an exam prep app cost?

Standard white-label projects start from £4,500. Final pricing depends on the condition and volume of your content, branding requirements, commercial setup and any requested functionality outside the existing Nurova platform. Custom development is quoted separately instead of being hidden inside the base package.

What happens after the app launches?

Projects can include an ongoing platform licence and maintenance arrangement covering the continued use and technical upkeep of the Nurova framework. New content imports, new features, major redesigns and client-specific development are not treated as unlimited maintenance; they can be scoped separately when needed.
